Ryan Patrick Maroney

Ryan Patrick Maroney died March 18 in Missoula, Montana.

Ryan was born November 14, 1972, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Tim and Jan Maroney. Ryan was born to very young parents who loved him deeply. He often said "they grew up with me." At five months old, he moved with his parents to a ranch 14 miles north of Zurich, Montana, where the family lived until he was two. They then moved to Havre, Montana, where Ryan was later blessed with two younger sisters, Megan when he was four and Katie when he was eight.

Ryan attended St. Jude's Grade School through eighth grade and graduated from Havre High School in 1991. While living in Havre, Faith Ann, whom he loved like a daughter, and his son Patrick were born. He later moved to Riverside, California, for a few years before returning to Montana. Ryan married Jennifer Thomas and settled in Polson, where he worked at Ace Hardware. During that time, his son Achilles and infant daughter Gethsemane were born. Ryan and Jennifer later divorced, but he often spoke of those years with her and Achilles as some of the happiest times of his life.

Ryan later moved to Billings, where he worked at Rimrock Treatment Foundation for several years. About seven years ago, he relocated to Missoula and worked at Fresh Market. At each of his jobs, Ryan found joy in talking with people. Thanks to his inquisitive nature, he had a way of getting people to talk with him and share their stories. Ryan loved music and books and was very artistic. He enjoyed pencil drawing and had hoped to write a book one day.

Ryan was preceded in death by his beloved children, Gethsemane in 2008, and Patrick in 2021 and by his father, Tim, in 2025.

He is survived by his son Achilles; his mother, Jan; his sisters, Megan Maroney and Katie (Paul) Jones; and daughter of his heart, Faith (Stephen) Real. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and many friends who will miss him dearly.

A gathering to celebrate Ryan's life and share memories will be held June 13th at 11am, at St. Jude Parish Center in Havre. The family asks that you remember Ryan by sharing a story with a friend and reminding those you hold dear just how much you love them.
