Caden Jeffrey Jenkins, a radiant spirit and beloved son, grandson, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and devoted member of the Havre and Dillon communities, passed away on July 5, 2026, as a result of an automobile accident in Beaverhead County. Although his time on earth was far too short, the impact he made on the lives of those who knew and loved him will be felt for generations.
Caden was born on January 2, 2004, in Havre, Montana, to Brian and Melanie Jenkins. From the very beginning, he blessed the world with a contagious smile, a gentle heart, and an infectious enthusiasm for life. He possessed a rare gift for making people feel seen, valued, and important. Whether you had known him for years or had just met him, Caden had a way of making you feel like you belonged.
In 2006, Caden gained his lifelong best friend and little BIG brother, Jevin. Together, they filled their childhood with adventure, laughter, boyhood shenanigans, and memories that will forever be treasured. That same year, Tonya Stump became part of the Jenkins family, giving Caden the sister he always believed he was meant to have. He often said it was simply "meant to be."
To know Caden was to know someone who found peace where others found ordinary. His heart belonged outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, hiking, shed hunting, tending to his ever-growing collection of plants, or simply sitting quietly beneath Montana skies, he felt closest to home here. His love for conservation and land stewardship wasn't merely a hobby-it was part of who he was. He believed God's creation was a gift to be respected, protected, and cherished for generations to come.
Caden's passion for the outdoors grew with his "cuzzo" Kellen "Ricky" and Dylan "Ricky Sr." (Caden of course was Ricky Jr.") Together, they wanted to inspire others to unplug from the distractions of everyday life, embrace God's creation, and then OTG--Off the Grid Outdoors was created.
Being a founding member of OTG was one of Caden's greatest sources of pride. It gave him the opportunity to spend time with his favorite people while exploring the places he loved most. For Caden, there was no greater joy than sharing a sunrise on a mountainside, casting a line into a quiet river, chasing elk through the timber, or simply sitting around a campfire with those he loved. Those moments weren't just adventures-they were where memories were made, friendships were strengthened, and faith came alive.
Above all else, Caden's life was firmly rooted in his faith in God. He chose Christ as his Lord Savior and was baptized by his Grandpa Doug in the Bear Paw Mountains. From that moment it was the foundation upon which he built his life. His faith shaped his character, guided his decisions, and was reflected in the kindness, humility, compassion, and grace he extended to everyone around him. He believed every person deserved to be loved, encouraged, and treated with dignity because every person was created by God with purpose.
Caden often found himself closest to the Lord in the quietness of nature. Whether standing on a mountainside at sunrise, walking through the woods, sitting beside a peaceful river, or caring for one of his many plants, he saw the fingerprints of God everywhere he looked. His "healthy obsession" with horticulture became something family and friends lovingly teased him about, but those who knew him understood it reflected his patient, nurturing spirit. Just as he cared for his plants, he cared deeply for the people in his life.
He believed in living a simple and an intentional life. Material possessions never defined success for Caden. Instead, he measured life by faith and the meaningful relationships in his life. A quote from the Breakfast Club, one of Caden's favorite movies, reflected the way he lived. "Spend a little more time trying to make something of yourself and a little less time trying to impress people." Caden never sought attention or recognition. He simply wanted to become the best man God had created him to be.
Caden graduated from Havre High School in 2022 before earning an Associate of Science degree from the University of Montana Western.
His first job was at Timber Creek Village. He later worked for the MSU-N Physical Plant, or "The Fizz," where he enjoyed working for his Uncle Kino. In Dillon, he worked at the UM Western Physical Plant, Rocky Mountain Supply, Angler's Village Inn and Coffee Shop (where his Honey Vanilla Latte became a favorite) and volunteered at Roxi's Greenhouse and Nursery.
Caden proudly served with the Montana DNRC as a Wildland Firefighter. Entering his third season with the Dillon Unit, he has become a respected Lead Firefighter while pursuing Incident Commander Type 5 and Chief of Party for Utility Vehicle 2332. He also served as the unit's Physical Fitness Program Manager, was a helicopter crew member, sawyer, and mentor to rookie firefighters. Every responsibility he accepted was approached with humility, dedication, and a servant's heart.
Life presented Caden with physical challenges that forced him to step away from sports he dearly loved, including football and baseball. Yet he refused to let adversity define him. Instead, he immersed himself in learning about physiology, understanding the human body, and strengthening himself both physically and mentally. He had recently begun pursuing weightlifting, always striving to become a stronger version of himself.
Despite his maturity, Caden never lost his playful spirit. His family will forever smile at the memory of random screams echoing through the house, his quick wit, contagious laughter, and ability to turn even ordinary days into unforgettable memories. Many described him as an "old soul" because of his wisdom beyond his years, his passion for writing and journaling, and the thoughtful way he viewed the world.
More than anything, Caden chose kindness. He loved deeply, listened without judgment, encouraged freely, and lived intentionally. Every person who crossed his path walked away feeling more important because they had met him. That was his gift. That was his ministry.
Caden is survived by his son (dog), Bennie, affectionately known as "Richard"; his parents, "Pops" Brian and "Momma" Melanie Jenkins; his little BIG brother, Jevin Jenkins, and sister Tonya Stump; his beloved nephews, Tayton Matias and Stetson Cole Stump; his grandparents, "Poppa" Rex and "Grandma Mimi" Cindy Baack, and Doug and Gayle Jenkins; his aunts, Autumn Elliot and Jennifer Jenkins; his uncles, Kino Detrick and Jim Elliot; his cousins, Kellen Detrick, Ethan Elliot, Quinn Elliot, Kenlee Turner, and Kyler Turner; his brother from another mother, Scott Stockdill; and his sister from another mister, Mollee Gemar.
Though his earthly journey has ended far too soon, Caden's faith, kindness, laughter, and love continue to live on in every life he touched. His family asks that those wishing to honor his memory do so by loving others well, spending time in God's creation, working hard without seeking recognition, and never missing an opportunity to make someone feel seen, valued, and loved. The Caden Jenkins Memorial Fund has been established through Independence Bank in Havre, Montana. Memorial contributions may be made in Caden's memory and will be used to continue the passions and causes that meant so much to him.
And as Caden would say...
"You just gotta keep livin' man, L-I-V-I-N"
