Havre Trails is seeking volunteers for their Summerfest event. Anyone who would like to help is encouraged to contact the organization by July 29.
Event personnel report that they are in need of 30-35 volunteers for their Eighth Annual Summerfest on August 29 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. at Pepin Park in Havre. Volunteers receive free entrance, a free tasting glass (and drinks), as well as a volunteer t-shirt.
Formerly known as a brewfest, Havre Trails Summerfest will offer a selection of beers, ciders, wine, seltzers, and food trucks. Drink stations will include Triple Dog Brewing, Pleasant Prairie Brewing, Gusto Distributing, and Havre Distributors. Additionally, live music by The Lucky Valentines (TLV) will entertain guests.
Comprised of Shaun and Jamie Carrier who currently reside in Fort Benton, TLV have been creating music together since 2009. According to their website, the duo has written more than eighty songs which predominately feature "a mix of folk melodic sensibilities and tight harmonies, and a whole lotta love to make sad things beautiful." Their sound has been described as "Bruce Springsteen and Patty Griffin meet Shovels and Rope in a Gypsy Junkshop."
In April 2023, TLV released their newest album, Losses. Although it highlights grief, it also celebrates the connectivity of all things and the hope that comes through adversity. TLV describe the album as "a family of songs that explore sorrow and hope and the way these two huge emotions murmur through every moment of our lives."
Posters for the Summerfest event were designed by MSU-Northern Graphic Design student Jaden Gibson. As a dominant image, Gibson selected a hand grasping a beer mug which looks to have just toasted another drinker in a gesture of cheers. Gibson's artwork not only highlights Montana's blue skies but drips and sloshes with creamy beer foam.
Summerfest is a fundraiser for Havre Trails, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote and improve recreational trails in and around Havre. Proceeds from prior events have allowed Havre Trails to create the Rotary Canyon Loop Trail north of Bear Paw Lake, the Brough's Coulee loop off of the Bear Paw Nature Trail in Beaver Creek Park, and the Bullhook Butte Trail at Saddle Butte. Attendance at Summerfest enables Havre Trails to continue developing recreational opportunities in the area.
