Out our way the trail drive is largely a thing of the past, but come branding, shipping and moving pastures, some remnants remain.

As many of you know, the main positions for the cowhands are POINT, SWING, and DRAG. Those riding “drag” are the “dust eaters” - the least skillful riders who ride in the rear and keep the herd moving.

Coming into the sorting corrals after a long drive, “Point” leads the way, “Swing” keeps the herd together - then comes the herd itself…and eventually, far in the rear often hidden by the dust kicked up by the herd, comes “the dust eaters”.
