What 'Cher Point

March 22, 2017

It is Saturday afternoon and I have not heard yet how Northern’s women did in their playoffs. I do know that Carroll won and Western lost earlier on Friday.

I finally got my brackets done in the 2017 Division I basketball tournament and March Madness had officially gotten off to a great start. I will give you my elite 8 this week and predict the winner of it all next week. I have the elite 8 as Villanova, Duke, Gonzaga, Arizona, Kansas, Louisville (although my heart is crying Oregon), North Carolina and Kentucky. I took a few chances but not many.

As to the women’s side of things I don’t know enough about women’s college basketball to fill out brackets and from looking at my men’s picks, one would wonder about me there as well. Speaking of the women’s tournament I did read that the top seeds are UConn, Irish, South Carolina and Baylor so one would think that one of them would win it all.

While looking at basketball stats, let’s look at the NBA as well this week. Top teams in the eastern conference are Cleveland, Boston, Washington, Toronto, Atlanta and Indiana. Cleveland has won 43 games to date and Indiana has won 34 so there is a nine game difference between number 1 and number 6.

Bottom of the eastern heat are New York, Philadelphia, Orlando and Brooklyn.

On the western side of things they have won many more games to date than the eastern side. Top in the west is Golden State and they have won 52 games which is 9 games over Cleveland. Probably those numbers mean something this year. Other top of the heap in the west are San Antonio, Houston, Utah, LA Clippers, and Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City has won 37 games so that sort of evens out with the 6 ranked in the eastern conference. Bottom of the western conference is Sacramento, Phoenix and the Lakers.

Is it time to predict that the bottom line is going to be Cleveland vs. Golden State? Probably not quite yet but it is getting close.

Viking fans will be sad to hear that the Vikings got rid of Adrian Peterson after ten years with the team. The Vikings hired Latavius Murray from Oakland to take his place.

And in the Raider land tight end Jared Cook was signed for a two year deal. Cook said that when the young Oakland quarterback Derek Carr had a film session with Cook, that sealed the deal. Good for them. It looks like the Raider Nation will be back in force next season!

That’s my story and I am sticking to it. Go Thunderbirds!
