What 'cher point?

Do I think that LeBron and the Cleveland Cavaliers are going to win another championship? As I write these words it is Saturday afternoon and Golden State is ahead one game and only one game has been played.

I do think that LeBron James is simply the best player playing professional basketball at this time so if he can get his team going his way, and he is very good at that, he should be able to take this series. However, I will say that there is something about Golden State winning the first game that is unnerving.

There is something else that plays into this championship as well and that is even more unnerving. It seems that late last week someone wrote a huge racial slur on LeBron James’ front gate at I think was his Brentwood estate.

As a country are we never going to get over this sort of behavior? James said probably not and also said that it is so very difficult being Black in the United States.

I kind of know that from firsthand experience. I heard a speech a couple of years ago from then President Obama in which he said that the church was like the grandmother in Black families. That fall there were some black football players playing probably Northern and they started attending Van Orsdel Methodist Church because we were Methodists and they had come from a Methodist Church. However, their Methodist Church was very different that Van Orsdel and I always hoped that they found a church that would treat them the way a grandmother would but I also knew that it might be difficult here in Montana where we Methodists are not the Frozen Chosen, but we are sometimes very close.

The bottom line is that writing a racial slur on your front gate could affect your basketball playing. I think it would affect mine!

This must have been a slow sports week as sports reporters and even regular media reporters made a huge deal out of Tiger Woods being picked up for Driving Under the Influence. To my fellow reporters and sports fans, let it go! Here is a man having enough troubles without us having to read about it in two daily newspapers every day!

Shame on us.

That’s my story and I am sticking to it. Go Thunderbirds!
