Chinook drops tough five set match to North Star

The Chinook Sugarbeeters fell to the North Star Knight Thursday in a long and grueling five set match, 26-24, 25-18, 21-25, 14-25, 13-15. The team will look to bounce back this weekend when they host conference foes Big Sandy and Hays/Lodge Pole this Friday and Saturday.

Chinook took a back and fourth opening set 26-24 scoring well at the net. Junior Megan Molyneaux collected a trio of kills while senior Erin Pula, junior Kourtney Hanson and junior Rachel Gunderson each slammed home a pair.

Molyneaux and senior Sierra Swank each had four assists. Swank also dug up eight balls and senior Carrie Hofer saved seven.

The second set was another strong performance for the ‘Beeters stretching the lead throughout before securing a 25-18 set win to go up 2-0 in the match.

Hanson slammed home five of the teams eight kills in the set win while also recording three blocks.

Molyneaux and Swank again split the assists with three each and Swank and Hofer shored up the defense with 13 and 9 dug up balls.

The momentum began to turn in the third set as the Knight collected their first set win 25-21.

Hanson led the ‘Beeter attack with three kills, Hofer and Swank each kept the offense going with 9 digs.

The fourth set was all North Star as they won 25-14. Molyneaux collected the teams two kills.

The ‘Beeters responded in the fifth set as each team had to work for every point they received but in the end it was the Knights earning a tough 15-13 set to win the match 3-2.

For the match the ‘Beeter offense was led by Hanson and her 11 kills, Molyneaux set the hitters up with 14 assists while Swank added 13.

Hofer secured the back row with 38 digs in the contest and Swank tallied 36. Molyneaux registered 14 assists and Swank 13.

The ‘Beeters will be back on the court this Friday and Saturday against the Pioneers and Thunderbirds. On Tuesday the team will welcome the Malta M-ettes to town before heading out on the road for a test against the Chester Joplin Inverness Hawks next Thursday.

The ‘Beeters will host the North Star Knights the following Thursday as the celebrate Homecoming on September 28.
