Will Robb is new Patrolman with the Chinook Police Department

November 22, 2017

Will Robb joined the Chinook Police Department in August as a new Patrolman. The Nebraska native and his wife, Jessica, moved to the Chinook area just over a year ago. Dr. Jessica Robb, DVM, joined the Blaine County Veterinary Service last year as a veterinarian. Will and Jessica have a fifteen month old son, Braxton. They first resided in the Cleveland area and now live in Chinook.

Will grew up in Elwood, Nebraska (south, central Nebraska), a town of about 700 people. He said, "Even though I grew up in town, my family had horses and I was active in 4-H and did some rodeoing. Agriculture in the Elwood area is mostly farming, with some ranching." Will's wife, Jessica, is also a native of Nebraska. They met through mutual friends who were dating.

After graduating high school Will attended a John Deere sponsored mechanics program at a local community college. He then joined the National Guard and was a truck driver. He returned to the same community college and completed a Fire Protection program. The program prepares grads for work as professional firefighters.

Both Will's parents were EMTs and volunteer firefighters in Nebraska. Will explained, "After time in the Guard and completing the Fire Protection program I realized I wanted to do some sort of career in public service." He joined the Chinook-Blaine County volunteer fire department soon after moving to Blaine County.

Through the volunteer fire department Will knew Chinook Police Chief Elmer Zarn and learned about the patrolman's opening in the Chinook Police Department. Will applied for the job because, "It seemed to align with my desire to work in public service and dovetailed with many of the skills I already had from the Guard and the formal fire program I completed."

Police officers in Montana must complete a 12 week POST training course to be certified as a law enforcement officer. Will is scheduled to attend the Montana Academy and complete his POST training this coming April.

After three months on the job, he said, "I like being in a small town where it's easy to see if something is "out of place." After living in a college town for a couple of years (wife Jessica did two years of her veterinary training in Ames, Iowa at Iowa State) it's nice to be back in a small town where everyone waves."

Future plans? Will Robb said, "I plan to be with the Chinook Department for the foreseeable future." The "Journal" welcomes Will Robb to his new position as a city patrolman.
