June 16, 2018,

Dear Friends,

Thank you for the opportunity to address you today and be part of this ceremony to honor Frank and Bettie Barber of Lloyd, Montana, for their patriotic dedication to the United States military and agricultural issues here in the State of Montana.

From 1961 to 1965, Frank proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Bettie's father was a career United States Navy service member. While Frank was stationed in California, he met Bettie and like they say, the rest is history. After Frank's discharge from the Marine Corps, they moved to Montana where Frank returned to a civilian life in agriculture, with Bettie by his side.

Throughout the years, the Barbers raised their children and were active in the communities that surround their home in the Bears Paw Mountains. In 1998, they became involved in the Bearpaw Bowmen Archery Club and volunteered their ranch as a place to host the 3-D bow shoot. People from all over the world come to participate in this two-day shoot, and the funds raised for the archery club are given to those in need. As an example, last year after the devastating wildfires that hit the area, the Bearpaw Bowmen Archery Club was able to donate monies to the local volunteer fire departments.

Frank and Bettie also sustain The Barber Ranch Scholarship, which awards students of MSU-Northern, who is from Montana and majoring in Agriculture, with funds for college. Since 2009, this scholarship has grown to over $17,000, with over $7,000 already been awarded to students who are the future of agriculture here in Montana.

Today marks the 20th year that the Barbers have opened their property to host the 3-D Bow Shoot. And now, in honor of that, it is my pleasure to present to Frank and Bettie, this flag that was flown over the United States Capitol in January, 2018, as a way to say "Thank you" for their service to the United States military, to our nation, to the great State of Montana, and to the future of agriculture in the state.

Again, thank you all for the opportunity to be here today to honor Frank and Bettie.

Sincerely, Steve Daines

United States Senate

Recognizing

Frank and Bettie Barber

HON. GREG GIANFORTE

of Montana in the House of Representatives

Thursday, June 21, 2018

Mr. GIANFORTE. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Frank and Bettie Barber of Lloyd. Since 1998, the Barbers volunteer their working ranch in the Bear Paw Mountains to host the Bear Paw Bowmen Archery Club's annual Barber Ranch Two-Day Archery Shoot.

Last weekend marked the competition's 20th anniversary.

Hundreds of archers spread out over different courses throughout the Barbers' ranch during the event. The competition ends with a community dinner.

Proceeds support local causes. Last year, funds from the Barber Ranch Two-Day Archery Shoot helped local volunteer fire departments following the devastating East Fork Fire in the Bearpaw Mountains.

Beyond their involvement in their local hunting community, the Barbers established a college scholarship. Since 2009, the Frank and Bettie Barber Scholarship has awarded more than $9,000 to Montana State University- Northern agriculture students. Contributions from the Barbers benefit a growing number of students and create further opportunities for agricultural education in Montana.

Frank, a retired Marine, and Bettie, the daughter of a career Navy veteran, are also well known for their love of our country.

For their dedication to their community, commitment to agriculture scholarship, and generosity, I recognize Frank and Bettie Barber of Lloyd for representing the spirit of Montana.
