ork on the Crazy Horse Monument began in 1948 by sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski who died in 1982. His family continues work on the giant sculpture, billed as the largest sculpted monument in the world, with no clear finish date. The family follows Ziolkowski's request to not be concerned about a timetable but to do the sculpture properly. Work continues year round except when snow prohibits the crew from accessing the mountain.
