  • US 2 Construction Paused for Winter

    BLAINE COUNTY, Mont.: The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its contractor, Wickens Construction, have paused the project to reconstruct a portion of US Highway 2 (US 2) between Zurich and Harlem for the winter. This project will widen a 7-mile stretch of US 2 between the intersections with Eight Mile Road, 4 miles east of Zurich, and Thirty Mile Road, just west of Harlem. It will include 12-foot travel lanes and 8-foot shoulders, adding 2 miles of passing lanes in both directions....

  • Sea of Blue Inundates Bozeman

    A sea of blue jackets inundated the campus of Montana State University-Bozeman (MSU) from November 14-16. With 1,900 registered attendees, the university hosted high school and middle school students from across the state for the annual Montana FFA Ag Expo.     On Monday, November 11, multiple signs honoring area veterans appeared on Main Street in Turner, Montana. Some were displayed in front of the post office; others appeared across from or flanked the American Legion Hall.     A friend shared a copy of a map showing nearly 30 known locations where Japanese Balloon Bombs, launched in Japan and carried across the Pacific Ocean by the jet stream, landed in Montana toward the end of World War II. Woodcutters near Kalispell were the first to see a balloon bomb in Montana. That was December, 1944. The remaining bombs found and identified in Montana were discovered in the spring of 1945.
