National Volunteer Week is traditionally celebrated the third week in April. Wanda Bushman of Malta, formerly of Harlem, has begun a battle with stage 1 lobular carcinoma, a form of breast cancer. Wanda worked at the Harlem Elementary School for many years and is the office manager of the Phillips County news in Malta. She is mother of six adults, and grandmother of six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Thirteen members of the Chinook Chapter of the FFA attended Fall Districts in Lewistown on October 3 when eighteen teams from across Montana competed in Livestock Judging and Horse Evaluation. The Chinook volunteer fire department started in 1904 and is still going strong! They cover roughly 2,056 areas from the Canadian border, to Zurich, the Hill County line, and all the way to the Missouri river. Virginia Olson was back in Chinook from Great Falls after attending the annual Montana Governor's Conference on Aging. The event brings health care providers and caregivers together from across the state to discuss issues facing aging populations especially in a sparsely populated state like Montana. Hello From the Chinook Social Senior Center! We have had lots of fun this past week, with the September birthday party. We had 10 birthday guests to celebrate! Just in time for homecoming and the 2023 Sugarbeet Festival, a hay sculpture turned up on September 27 just west of Alfalfa Road. Two stacked round bales feature the Sugarbeeter mascot head, black, orange, and white paint, and the message, "Go Beeters" on the base. Some twigs jut from the upper most bale to resemble a beet top. JUMP youth Group will be conducting a food drive to benefit the Chinook Food Pantry. The Food Pantry benefits anyone with a need as long as they are Blaine County residents. JUMP has been involved in a yearly food drive for well over 10 years and have collected thousands of pounds of food and household items for the pantry.
