Adopt-a-Coat and spread the warmth!

November 11, 2015

A group of local volunteers recently met to organize a drive to help assure fellow citizens have the cold weather gear they need for the upcoming winter season. Jessica Aberg, Loan Officer with the First Bank of Montana in Chinook, organized the meeting to explore ways to fill this need for warm clothing. She invited volunteers with My Neighbor in Need, another community-based support group, to help organize the project.

The group decided to use contacts from schools, churches, day care facilities and other local agencies to assess needs, then share those needs with locals who would like to help provide winter gear to someone who needs warm clothing. The effort is for both adults and children who need coats, caps, mittens/gloves, scarves, snow pants and boots.

Adopt-a-Coat will be asking donors to buy new coats and winter wear or provide a donation so that new items can be purchased by the organizers. Names of those making requests will be kept confidential. Neighbors, friends and acquaintances are encouraged to make requests on behalf of someone who has such a need.

Requests will be received and coordinated by Aberg at First Bank. You can take a request directly to her at the bank or call her and describe the request. She will post requests for winter gear in the bank lobby. Persons wishing to fulfill a need for winter gear can stop by the bank after November 18 and choose a request to fill. Donors can purchase new clothing or give a donation to fulfill a specific request. Items purchased to fulfill a need can be brought to the bank during regular banking hours.

Items should be requested for either a male or female with appropriate sizes for adults or children also noted. Requests need to be made by November 18 to the bank. Items requested will be distributed after November 27. Details of the distribution will be provided later.

You can call Jessica Aberg at 357-2244 to make a request for someone who needs winter outerwear or get more information about the project.
