Every year, the FFA organizes community service projects. The Chinook FFA began a community garden this past summer. They have been landscaping the post office since school started. Before the fair members also expanded the FFA booth at the Blaine County Fair Grounds. Community service projects encourage FFA members to help out in our community.

The newest and largest FFA community service project is the community garden located behind the High School. The community garden was created for people who would like a garden but don't have space in their yard for one. To help purchase materials, the FFA received the Helping Hands Grant through the Montana FFA Foundation. The garden is thriving thanks to Pike Construction, Triple T Sales, Marty Mickelson, and J.J. Colby. Pike Construction donated soil for the plots, Triple T Sales donated the lumber, which FFA members used to construct the plots, Marty Mickelson donated the rebar to hold the plots in place, and J.J. Colby donated a recycled bottle greenhouse that he made for his Eagle Scout project. The future of the community garden looks wonderful. The garden received Yard of the in early August. The FFA plans to make more plots so more people are able to have a garden.

The post office has a new look. The past few weeks Ms. Allen's Exploratory Agriculture class has been going to the post office and landscaping the front and sides of the parking area. They will be adding a bench on the north side of the building. The project was funded in part by the Helping Hands Grant thorough the Montana FFA Foundation and donations from Patrick Construction.

The FFA concessions booth at the fairgrounds received a lot of attention in June. FFA members expanded the booth 120 square feet and added a new serving window, door, outlets, sink, and ceiling to keep dust from falling onto the counter tops, and installed FRP board to cover the walls and brighten up the booth. The Ag Construction class is pouring concrete to even out the floor in the newly expanded area. Next year the FFA plans to install stainless steel counter tops and shelving. Thank you to Triangle Communications for providing a $1,000 grant to help cover part of the cost.

These community service projects help the community while helping the FFA members in the process. Projects like the community garden help FFA members to provide community members with opportunities in our city. Fixing up the post office teaches us to respect the community and the improvements to the fair booth help us to present the FFA to the community as an organization that cares for themselves as well as for others. Thank you to all those who helped financially and physically to make these projects - and future projects - successful.
