March 14, 2018

he Blaine County Library joined in celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday earlier this month and several children stopped in to color a beautiful picture on his special day. Pictured above James Harry is hard at work on his project!.

My Side of the Mountain will be the movie today at 1:00 p.m. in the library meeting room. It is rated G and running time is 1 hour and 40 minutes. Everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served. Millions will be showing March 21st. We are showing the movies with closed captioning whenever possible. Hopefully this will encourage those who may have difficulties hearing the movies to attend.

We have five new movies ready to go this week. Dunkirk, Ferdinand, Justice League and The Shape of Water are now available.

The Blaine County Library is pleased to be hosting the next class in the family education series being presented by the Blaine County Health Department. Join us on March 15th at 6:00 p.m. in the library meeting room. Louann Paulsen will discuss how to respond to childhood injuries ranging from every day accidents to emergency situations.

"Winter Sisters" by Robin Oliveira is a tender family saga, a poignant feminist narrative, and a compelling mystery. This follow up to Oliveira's first book "My Name is Mary Sutter" is an eloquent reminder that women have been fighting for centuries, for justice and equality.

"The Kremlin Conspiracy" by Joel C. Rosenberg is a high-stakes political thriller set in Russia. With an American president distracted by growing tensions in North Korea and Iran, an ominous new threat is emerging in Moscow. A Czar is rising in the Kremlin, a Russian president feverishly consolidating power, silencing his opposition, and plotting a brazen and lightning-fast military strike that could rupture the NATO alliance and bring Washington and Moscow to the brink of nuclear war. But in his blind spot is the former U.S. Secret Service agent, Marcus Ryker, trained to protect but ready to kill to save his country.

Who is Nola Brown? Nola is a mystery, Nola is trouble, and Nola is supposed to be dead. Her body was found on a plane that mysteriously fell from the sky as it left a secret military base in the Alaskan wilderness.

Her commanding officer verifies she's dead. The US government confirms it. But Jim "Zig" Zigarowski has just found out the truth: Nola is still alive and on the run in "The Escape Artist" by Brad Meltzer.

When Myriam decides to return to work as a lawyer after having children, she and her husband look for the perfect nanny for their son and daughter.

They never dreamed they would find Louise: a quiet, polite, devoted woman who sings to the children, cleans the family's chic Paris apartment, stays late without complaint, and hosts enviable kiddie parties. But as the couple and the nanny become more dependent on one another, jealousy, resentment, and suspicions mount, shattering the idyllic tableau.

Building tension with every page, "The Perfect Nanny" by Leila Slimani is a compulsive, riveting, bravely observed exploration of power, class, race, domesticity, motherhood, and madness.

We are currently planning our Summer Reading Program and we are looking for some items for crafts. We are in need of empty paper towel rolls and cereal boxes. If you can donate any to the cause we would be grateful!

March is Women's History Month. Kelsey has put together a book display full of women's history to celebrate.

Be sure to check out the on-going book sale in the entryway while you are here. You may find something you just can't do without! All proceeds from our book sales go into our memorial fund and are used for special programming and items to enhance the library. We also have a cart of discarded magazines free for the taking!

There is always something going on at the library. Check us out on Facebook or look us up on our website at http:www.blainecountylibrary.org for up to date information about what's going on!

"Any book that helps a child form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him."
