Young Wildcats show potential in season oper with Glasgow

The Harlem Wildcats are now under direction of first year Head Coach Stacy Cole an his assistant Enrique Rivera. Cole is not new to the Wildcat football team as he has been connected to the program in some form for seven years.
Cole has 37 players out this fall but are a very young team with room for growth and show plenty of potential, “They are working hard and learning every day, “ said Cole. I have five seniors and four juniors and some of them are out for the first time.”
Seniors include Tyrek Crazy, Josiah Longfox, Hunter Gray, Cody Welsh, Kurt Calvert and Lane Allen. Juniors are Bradley Cole, Jevyn Schuhmacher, Curtis Healy and Sonny Gray.
Sophomores are Andrew Rasmussen, Damani Has Eagle, Josh Horn, Austin Welsh, Julius Ball, Brent Cole, Jerimiah Mount, Cassius Johnson, Brenden Walker and Zach Kinyon.
Freshman out this fall are Trent Crazy, Cordell Walker, Amari Stanley Joseph Sears, Richard Hoops, Tracel Adams John Hughes Jr., ColeMain, Isaak Wing, Trace Sun Child, Mikkel Rider, JJ Harris, Delray Begay,Jacon Longfox and Cody Wiegand.
Harlem will compete this fall in the revamped Northern B as the District 1B and 2B no longer exist in relation to football. With the recent losses of Plentywood, Rocky Boy and Chouteau and Shelby this year to the Eight-man football ranks the seven remaining teams combined to form the Northern B Division.
Four of the seven will advance to the State B playoffs, which begin the end of October and Coach Cole likes his teams chances, “My expectations are to have the first winning season in many years, hopefully our first playoff berth as well.”
The Wildcats began their season this past Saturday in Glasgow to face the Scotties. The Wildcats played well early trailing just 8-6 as senior Lane Allen scored on a nine yard for the first Wildcat points of the season. Heading into the second quarter Harlem trailed the Scotties just 8-6.
A 35 point second quarter put the game out of reach for the Wildcats heading into intermission down 43-6. The team continued to play hard in the second half allowing just one score on an interception return the rest of the way.
“The integrity the kids showed the second half and the way they competed shows a lot about them and who they are,” said Cole. “They held them scoreless on defense the second half, I was very happy with the way they continued to play.
The Scotties host the Cut Bank Wolves this Friday in their home opener. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
