Turner Students promote Autism Awareness, celebrate Earth Day

May 1, 2019

Students and Staff at Turner School wore T Shirts with Autism emblems to school recently to show support and awareness toward Autism. It was heartwarming to see all the puzzle piece shirts or/and ribbons with puzzle design with words of encouragement and awareness. According to the National Health Survey, about 1 in 68 children born will be affected with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This being known, this affects more children than what most people are aware of. Showing awareness and support to this disorder is very important. These students in Turner were happy to show support in their school and wear their colors and puzzle pieces proudly, hoping one day soon, there may be a cure and all the pieces of the puzzle can be put together!

Turner School observed Earth Day this past Thursday. Students and Staff, k-12, took to the streets to pick up trash and haul it to the dumpsters. Afterwards they were rewarded for their efforts for a few minutes of play time and being "a kid!" The Junior and High School students teamed up with the younger students for some good mentoring and fun. There were laughs throughout the playground and treats were served to all the students compliments of the National Honor Society. It was a great day and just in time for the blizzard that hit our community on Sunday. All the efforts of both the children and the adults are truly appreciated. It's an honor to have a clean community and town to those coming into it for sporting events, visitors and perhaps a passerby heading to Canada.

We are proud to say we live here and the kids care about their town! Thanks for your efforts and thanks to the Honor Society for organizing the event.
