Detroit (May 31, 2019) – Cord Schneider, a student at Chinook High School, was awarded $6,000 at the National Invention Convention Entrepreneurship Expo presented by Youth Entrepreneurs.

The Entrepreneurship Expo is part of The Henry Ford National Invention Convention, an annual celebration of K-12 inventors and entrepreneurs from across the U.S. and is the marquee event of The Henry Ford's Invention Convention Worldwide young inventor and entrepreneur programs for K-12 students globally.

For 2019, the presenting sponsor of the Entrepreneur Expo is Youth Entrepreneurs (YE), a middle and high school elective program that instills the business skills, creative risk-taking and personal values necessary to succeed in today's market - and in life.

The National Invention Convention Entrepreneurship Expo presented by Youth Entrepreneurs is a contest that represents the culmination of months of hard work by student participants in the Youth Entrepreneurs curriculum to develop their boldest and most innovative business ideas. The Entrepreneurship Expo was a national stage for YE students to pitch their business proposals and put their entrepreneurial skills in action for a panel of expert judges.

Schneider was one of 11 finalists in the national competition – 10 selected previously by business professionals in the communities that YE serves and one selected by popular online voting.

Schneider's MEGA FAB received its investment from a panel of experts at the Entrepreneurship Expo for its ingenuity, thorough business strategy and level of value creation. MEGA FAB designs and manufactures custom truck bumpers. Schneider intends to use the grant to invest in the business.

"Our YE student participants have been incredibly principled in the pursuit of their ideas," said YE President Kylie Stupka, "Cord's enthusiasm about his ideas has left such a strong impact on his school, peers and community - encouraging others to follow their passions and become leaders."

"These young entrepreneurs epitomize the idea that we can teach students an entrepreneurial mindset and enable them to control their own destiny through entrepreneurship," says Danny Briere, Global Director of The Henry Ford's Invention Convention and Chief Entrepreneurship Officer of The Henry Ford. "Corporations are continually emphasizing that they want to see inventive, innovative, and entrepreneurial students entering their workforces, and clearly the YE program is preparing these students well."

Judges for the National Invention Convention Entrepreneurship Expo presented by Youth Entrepreneurs included: Sarah Ketterer, Chief Executive Officer, Fundamental Portfolio Manager at Causeway; Alyssa Bair, Chief Technology Officer at Elevation Solar; Jeff Ponders II, Entrepreneur in Residence at TechTown & Partner at The Better Company; David L. Porteous, Attorney, McCurdy Wotila & Porteous, P.C.; Lead Director, Huntington Bancshares Incorporated; and Mindy Doerr, Industry X.O. Innovation Center Ecosystem Manager, Accenture Digital.

Interviews, event video b-roll and images are available upon request.

By cultivating students' sense of personal responsibility and confidence in their capabilities, the Youth Entrepreneurs curriculum develops expertise essential to starting and running a business. Nationally, YE is currently in nearly 280 classrooms in 19 states. To date, the YE program has produced over 30,000 alumni across the U.S. Please visit the Youth Entrepreneurs website to learn more about the program and the local chapter in your area.

NOTE: More than 300 high school youth from across the country who have graduated from the Youth Entrepreneurs (YE) program will meet in Detroit for a transformational experience full of hands-on activities and networking opportunities, July 15-19, for the second annual YE National Summit.
