Chinook Rod and Gun Club Changes Gun Show Dates

September 4, 2019

The Chinook Rod and Gun Club invite the public to their 7th Annual Gun and Antique Show on September 13-15 at the Commercial Building on the Blaine County Fairgrounds. Branded as "the Hi-Line's largest gun show," the event will play host to games, guns, antiques, prize drawings, and more.

According to Rod and Gun Club Board Member and Chairman of the Gun Show, Keith Hanson, the dates for the gun show had to change this year from early October to mid-September because gun shows run on a circuit and depend on vendor availability.

"Although these dates weren't our first choice, maybe having the show at the same time as the Sugarbeet Festival can be beneficial for everyone. I guess we won't know until we see what happens," Hanson said.

In explaining the gun show, Hanson described how not only local vendors but some from out of state all congregate to buy, sell, and trade firearms. Some of the vendors even do value estimates if a person is seeking such information about the worth of a firearm.

"We hand pick our vendors," Hanson stated. "These folks that come to Chinook go above and beyond to support gun enthusiasts. Just a great bunch of people, they love to visit, and they bring an array of guns. This isn't a craft show but an outdoor gun show for buyers and collectors," Hanson added.

In addition to firearms, the show will feature jewelry, antiques, museum-quality pieces, and even obsolete ammunition in its original boxes. People coming to the Gun Show would only pay one admission fee to attend all three days; children under twelve years old will be admitted free. The Show will run from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Friday, from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Every admission purchase will enter the purchaser into a drawing for a chance to win $1,500 in Gun Show Bucks.

"This is our door prize system, and we're stepping way out of the box here, but we want people to come out and support the event. Of course, the money is only redeemable at the Show, and you must be present to win," Hanson explained.

The door prize system is one of many fundraising aspects of the Gun Show. Instead of selling gun raffle tickets this year, the Chinook Rod and Gun Club has decided to try some alternative raffles and games at the Show to generate funds. According to Hanson, these funds would not only go towards maintaining the gun range, which is located three miles south of Chinook on the Clear Creek Road, but would help the Club to start a scholarship fund.

In one of the planned fundraising games, the Shot Glass Game, a person would purchase a shot glass for $20.00 for a chance to win either $500.00 or a custom built, #2 series, one of a kind assault rifle. In another, a person can purchase a deck of cards for a chance to win 1911 custom grips. Other games will include Plinko and an on-site Poker Run.

"To participate in the poker run, a player would pay $5.00 per hand and then collect cards from various vendors to assemble the best poker hand," Hanson said. "We will have lots of opportunities for people to play and win at the Gun Show!"

Serving in their seventh year as concessions providers, the Valley Clovers 4-H Club will be on site to ensure that no one goes hungry.
