September 25, 2019

One of the big reasons the Sugarbeeter volleyball team has gotten off to a great start is their ability to keep balls in play and make good passes in the process. Junior Crystal Hofer and junior Jade Cecrle, have been a big reason the 'Beeters have been able to accomplish just that.

The Chinook Sugarbeeter and Harlem Lady Cat volleyball teams each added a pair of match play wins to their season total this past week with victories over the Box Elder Bears and Malta M-ettes.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters have had their way with their long time rivals from the east. The 'Beeters were looking for more of the same Tuesday night when they welcomed the Malta M-ettes to town for a non-conference match.

The 'Beeters took a early lead but the M-ettes clawed their way back into it with steady play. Down the stretch, the 'Beeters were too much for the visitors, taking the opening set 25-20.

Set number two was all Chinook. The 'Beeters were firing on all cylinders from the first serve to the last in a lopsided 25-8 second set win.

The M'ettes would play much better in set number three and get the best of the home team, cutting the 'Beeter advantage to 2-1 following a 25-19 third set win.

The 'Beeters certainly have shown an ability to close teams out this season and Tuesday was no exception. Chinook finished off the M-ettes with a 25-21 fourth set victory to win the match three sets to one.

Junior, Delaney Kellam led the offensive attack with nine kills while junior, Jayden Miller added eight and freshman, Bree Swanson six. Junior, Ginger Hauer set the hitters up with 25 assists while also digging up nine balls to lead the team.

Swanson and Kellam each contributed three blocks in the win and junior Lily Surber served up four aces in the match.

Thursday night the 'Beeters were in Box Elder to take on the Bears as they stepped back into conference play.

Chinook controlled the match start to finish winning the opening set 25-13 and then adding a 25-12 second set win to go up 2-0 in the match. The 'Beeters closed out the Bears with a 25-18 third set win to remain perfect on the season in District 6C-East play (4-0).

Once again Kellam led the offensive attack, slamming home nine of the teams 19 kills. Hauer recorded 17 assists while Miller served three aces and junior, Jade Cecrle, two in the win.

The Harlem Lady Cat volleyball team is off to its best start in school history and they kept that momentum going with a pair of wins this past week.

On Tuesday the Lady Cats welcomed the Box Elder Bears to town for a non-conference tilt that would end in a Lady Cat sweep.

Harlem was steady from the get go, taking the opening set 25-18 and then matching that effort in set number two with another score of 25-18.

With the momentum clearly in the hands of the home team, the Lady Cats closed out the Bears with an easy 25-10 third set win the sweep the visitors.

Senior, Aspen Baker and junior, Shyan Krass led the attack with five kills apiece while senior Taeshon Scheaffer set the hitters up with eight assists. Senior, Aria Owens served nine aces in the win and Neveah Spotted Eagle dug up nine balls for the Harlem squad.

Thursday the Lady Cats welcomed long time rival and District 2B foe Malta to town. The Lady Cats were looking to keep their strong start to the season going with a win over the M-ettes.

Harlem came out swinging, greeting the visitors with a 25-14 first set win to go up 1-0 in the match.

Malta would rebound in set number two and even the match at a set apiece with a hard fought 25-23 set win over the Lady Cats.

Harlem bounced back nicely in set number three with another fast start to push the M-ettes to the brink with a 25-15 third set win to group 2-1.

Malta again responded, forcing a fifth set with a 25-20 fourth set win to even the match 2-2.

Harlem closed out the M-ettes with a 15-6 fifth set win to defeat Malta for the first time in school history.
