“A library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people. It is a never failing spring in the desert.” -Andrew Carnegie

Between 1901 and 1922 seventeen Montana communities built libraries with money given to them by the era’s richest man, Andrew Carnegie. In a new book available at the library “The Best Gift: Montana’s Carnegie Libraries” architectural historian Kate Hampton and photographer Tom Ferris showcase fifteen of those libraries that stand today.

“The Chelsea Girls” is by author Fiona Davis. Playwright Hazel Ripley and actress Maxine Mead are determine to make connections at the famous New York Chelsea Hotel, home to artists, writers, musicians, actors, filmmakers and poets. Their goal is to put a show on Broadway. But as the Red Scare sweeps across America Senator Joseph McCarthy targets those in the entertainment industry. Hazel and Maxine must face the possible loss of their dream as well as their livelihood, their friendship and even their freedom.

Preston and Child’s latest novel is “Old Bones.” Historian Clive Benton has uncovered a long-lost diary of one of the members of the ill-fated Donner Party. Along with archaeologist, Nora Kelly, Benton and a team of explorers venture into the Sierra Nevada in search of the Donner camp. But what they discover is more complex than what they imagined with modern-day repercussions that involves the FBI.

“The Last Time I Saw You” is by Liv Constantine. Dr. Kate English comes from a place of wealth and privilege. When her mother is found murdered Kate reaches out to her old friend Blaire. Kate’s grief turns to horror when she receives an anonymous text: “You think you’re sad now, just wait. By the time I’m finished with you, you’ll wish you had been buried today.”

Other new titles include “Smoke Screen” by Iris Johansen, “Look Alive Twenty-Five” by Janet Evanovich, and “Life and Other Inconveniences” by Kristan Higgins.
