MAT Hosting Third 24-Hour Play Festival and Seeking Participants in January Production

November 13, 2019

Montana Actors’ Theater (MAT) is looking for individuals interested in taking part in their 24-Hour Play Festival which will be held November 15-16. This is the third year that MAT will host the event.

On Friday, November 15, all participants who are drawn to this opportunity should plan to gather at 7:00 p.m. for a social event at Vizsla Brewing, located in the Holiday Village Mall in Havre. At this gathering, the writers, directors, and actors are randomly placed on teams. These teams will consist of one writer, one director, and an equal number of actors. A headline is then randomly drawn from a collection of newspapers. This ends the first night for the audience.

The writer then has until 8:00 the next morning to write a script centering on the headline and utilizing the actors he/she has been assigned. At eight, the script goes to the director, and the cast will have until 8:00 that night to rehearse the script.

At 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, the audience returns to see the shows, which will be presented at the MSUN/MAT Theatre on Cowan Drive. Each play will run approximately 15-20 minutes.

Anyone with additional questions or wishing to participate should contact MAT Marketing Director Andi Daniel at andi@mtactors.com or by calling 406-945-0272. MAT is also in need of some tech and organizational help on Saturday.

According to Daniel, MAT would like to have a minimum of six writers and directors and 25-30 actors involved, but a prior commitment is required. “No experience is necessary,” Daniel said. “So don’t miss your chance to be part of this fun event.”

As of November 6, Daniel reported that three Blaine County residents had signed up for slots as actors in the 24-Hour Play Festival: Anjanett Hawk, Makayla Renfro, and Michelene Edwards.
