Blaine County Fair Dates Are Set for August

December 4, 2019

The Blaine County Fair will no longer compete with nor complement the Fourth of July celebrations of Blaine County citizens in 2020. To make the dates more 4-H friendly and to accommodate the PRCA rodeo schedule, the dates of the fair will be August 12-16.

According to Fair Board Secretary, Debbie Ramberg, the fair will open on Wednesday night with the Kid’s Rodeo, Thursday and Friday will feature the PRCA rodeo, Saturday will play host to the Demolition Derby, and the grand stand event on Sunday will be the ever-popular pig wrestling.

“We actually had no choice but to change the dates,” Ramberg said. If we wanted 4-H participation and a rodeo, we had to make the switch.”

In addition to that projected evening entertainment, the Fair Board is bringing back Bingo, and the Dreamland Carnival will populate the midway. Pippi the Clown will also be returning to bring laughter and surprises to fair goers with her years of magic experience and wide range of abilities.

Jeanne Thomas, who plays the role of Pippi the Clown, is a dual resident of San Francisco, California, and Red Lodge, Montana. To entertain fair crowds, she performs magic, sculpts balloon animals and hats, juggles, paints faces, and performs various skits and acts with props like flags, feathers, spinning ribbons, rainbow parachutes, and giant beach balls. Another aspect of her act that sets Pippi the Clown apart from other clowns is her uninhibited energy and her costume of pink hair, big, floppy shoes, and petticoats.

Another returning act will be the Doo-Wah Riders, a band based in Southern California and popular at fairs and festivals. The band defines their sound as “high energy country with a Cajun twist.”

The Doo-Wah Riders, who celebrated their 40th Anniversary in 2018, are known for being showmen who entertain audiences with their arrangements of classic and original songs. Band members Kenny Lee Benson, Lindy Rasmussen, Freddie Johnson, Aaron Castilla, and Peter Kaye will bring the spirit and rhythm of the bayou to life at the Blaine County Fair with their signature Zydeco beat.
