Harlem Library to offer Parenting Class

The Harlem Public Library is offering a Parenting Class series based on the Circle of Security® program. The five-week series will be held on Thursdays beginning February 6 from 6:00-7:30 P.M. in the library meeting room. Instructing the class will be Jacob Strissel from the Havre Bullhook Community Health Center. There is no charge for the class and free child care will be provided.
The Circle of Security® is an innovative relationship based parenting program designed to improve the developmental pathway of children and their parents. This evidence-based program was originated by Robert Marvin, the University of Virginia and Glen Cooper, Kent Hoffman, and Bert Powell from the Marycliff Institute in Spokane.
The program integrates fifty years of early child development research into a video-based intervention that strengthens parents’ abilities to observe and improve caregiving skills. Based on the attachment theory the Circle of Security® offers pathways for providing a secure relationship between parent and child.
Some of the topics covered in the series are: Exploring Our Children’s Needs, Being ‘With’ on the Circle, Being with Infants on the Circle, The Pathway to Security, Exploring Our Struggles, and Repairing Relationships.
The class is open to all parents and meets the requirements for the CPS Parenting Plan.
