COVID Cancellations Continue in the County

November 4, 2020

On Wednesday, October 28, and again on Thursday, October 29, Chinook School Superintendent, in cooperation with Blaine County Health Official Jana McPherson-Hauer, shared information that Chinook Schools were notified of school related cases of COVID-19 in students from the high school.

School officials are working closely and consistently with Blaine County Health Department to assess the risk to the rest of the school population. At this time, all the contacts of the cases have been notified and are quarantined and the school remains open.

According to Hannum, the COVID response in the school district will be an ongoing effort, and school officials will continue to update families and the community as the situation develops throughout the school year.

“This is a reminder to stay vigilant, to not send kids to school if they are sick, and to follow the guidance of local public health officials,” Hannun said. He went on to thank all families and community members for doing their part to keep Blaine County safe and healthy.

Along with this information, Hannum further announced that Friday’s home basketball games with Big Sandy would be cancelled.

In another move to protect the community’s youth from potential exposure to the virus, the JUMP organization also decided to cancel their Halloween costume party and dance. As their motto suggests, “When Faith Meets Doubt...Just JUMP.” So they did.

“We did not want to take away a chance for fun and celebration, but group gatherings are risky right now and we wanted to do the responsible thing and err on the side of caution by cancelling our Halloween festivities. We will still have a presence at Truck or Treat, though,” Chrissy Downs announced on the school’s public address system last Wednesday.
