It's that time of year again where the excitement of tournament play begins to highlight the talk of the high school basketball world. The District 9C Tournament got underway, Tuesday, February 16 at the site of the higher seeded school. Full tournament results will be included in next weeks edition.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters (12-2) split their final two regular season contests and will begin the District 9C Tournament as the No. 2 seed. The 'Beeter took care of business Friday night in their home finale, defeating the North Star Knights handily 75-32. Senior Ethan Bell paced the 'Beeter offense with 25 points while senior Reese Elliot added 16.

Saturday the 'Beeters were in Fort Benton in a game that featured the two top teams in the conference. Chinook came back from a 23-13 deficit to lead entering the fourth quarter before the Longhorns handed the 'Beeters another tough loss 64-61. Elliot led the 'Beeter attack with 25 points, Bell scored 16 in the contest. Chinook began the 9C Tournament at home against the No. 7 seed Turner Tornadoes.

The Turner Tornadoes (2-12) will be the No. 7 seed at the District 9C Tournament. Turner closed out the regular season with three games. Tuesday the North Star Knights defeated the Tornadoes in a heart breaker 47-46. Friday Turner fell to the Big Sandy Pioneers in another hard fought contest 59-52. Saturday night in Gildford the Tornadoes were again defeated by the Knights, this time by a score of 62-49. Turner began the 9C Tournament in Chinook against the No. 2 seeded Sugarbeeters.

The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds (2-11) will be the No. 8 seed at the District 9C Tournament. The Thunderbirds tested the Box Elder Bears in a very competitive outing at home Tuesday night, but fell in the end 78-70. Friday they again faced the Bears, this time however the game was played in Box Elder. The Thunderbirds were unable to keep pace in a 90-67 setback. Saturday Hays/Lodge Pole took on the Big Sandy Pioneers in the regular season finale. Big Sandy started fast in claiming a 88-54 win over the Thunderbirds. Hays/Lodge Pole began the district 9C Tournament in Fort Benton against the No. 1 seeded Longhorns.

The Harlem Wildcats are looking for a good seed in the District 2B and began the week without a blemish in conference play. Tuesday, at home against a very good Poplar Indian team, the Wildcats earned a high scoring 92-87 win. Juniors Tyler Cichosz and Daniel Lawrence each scored 31 in the win.

Friday night they were home again, this time looking to complete the season sweep of the Glasgow Scotties. A big third quarter effort powered the Wildcats to a 62-52 win. Cichosz again led the way with 24 points. Saturday the Wildcats took on the Malta Mustangs in a test between the top two teams in the District 2B. Malta took round one with a 77-54 win. Malta and Harlem played again this Tuesday and results will be in next weeks paper. The Wildcats finish the regular season with road contests in Wolf Point on Thursday and Poplar on Saturday.
