Stop by the library and pick up a new read or two! “The Children’s Blizzard” is by Melanie Benjamin. This is a story of courage on the Dakota Territory prairie inspired by the devastating storm that struck in Great Plains in 1888. Lives of hundreds of immigrant homesteaders, especially schoolchildren, were threatened that January day.

Andrew Mayne has written “The Girl Beneath the Sea.” Sloan McPherson has forged a path for herself and her daughter away from her family of Florida treasure hunters and drug smugglers. Now Sloan is the go-to diver for evidence recovery with the Lauderdale Shores police department. She finds the body of a woman floating in a canal and soon discovers their troubling ties make her a potential suspect.

“We Could Be Heroes” is by Mike Chen. Jamie woke up with no memory and only a few clues to his identity. But he does have the ability to erase other people’s memories. Zoe also is searching for her past and has the special power of speed and strength. They meet in a memory-loss support group where they uncover an ongoing threat to countless people. Will their special abilities make them the heroes they are meant to be?

Two new nonfiction selections are “Frontier Follies: Adventures in Marriage & Motherhood in the Middle of Nowhere” by Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman and “The Dead Are Rising: The Life of Malcolm X” by Les Payne and Tamara Payne.

Other new titles include “A Castaway in Cornwall” by Julie Klassen, “The Fall of Shannara: The Last Druid” by Terry Brooks, and “The Mermaid from Jeju” by Sumi Hahn.

The Book Challenge for March is to read a nonfiction historical book or a historical fiction book. We have a selection on display for you to choose from.

This month you may “Buy a Bag O’ Books” from our used book sale for only one dollar.

The library board meeting will be Wednesday, March 24, 4:15 in the library meeting room.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their infants, toddlers and preschoolers in the “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” program sponsored by the library. This program helps children get ready for school and instills a lifelong love of reading. Just track the number of books read and report them on the ReadSQUARED app or visit harlempubliclibrary.readsquared to get started. Children will be given a free board book when they register.

Virtual Story Time is held each Tuesday at 10 A.M. on Facebook Live. The Book Club meets each Monday at 4 P.M. via Skype. The link can be found on the library website at harlempubliclibrary.org.
