Take time this week to stop by the library to see the new titles ready for check out. “We Begin at the End” is by Chris Whitaker. Walk is the chief of police in the California town where he grew up. He has never forgiven himself for giving testimony that sent his best friend to prison decades earlier. Now Vincent is being released. Duchess is the thirteen-year-old self-proclaimed outlaw who is trying to keep her family together. Her mother grew up with Walk and Vincent and is bent on self-destruction. Walk and Duchess find themselves facing trouble when Vincent comes back to town.

Gwen Florio is the author of “Best Laid Plans,” the first of the Nora Best mystery series. When Nora Best finds her husband in a compromising position with a friend, she jumps into her truck and takes off with the Airstream trailer. She ends up in a Wyoming campground drowning her sorrows with the managers, Brad and Miranda. The next morning, Miranda is frantic after Brad has disappeared and bloodstains are found in the campsite.

Lauren Fox has written the historical fiction novel “Send for Me.” Annelise grows up in Germany working in her family’s bakery. They can’t believe the rumors of anti-Jewish sentiment that swirl around them. As Annelise falls in love, marries, and gives birth to her daughter the rumors turn to reality. She and her husband take the chance to leave for America, but they must leave without her parents. Two generations later Annalise’s granddaughter. Clare, stumbles upon her great-grandmother’s letters from Germany. As she realizes her family’s sacrifices she must choose the past, or her future without them.

“When Harry Met Minnie” by Martha Teichner is a true story of love and loss. Martha Teichner learns through a fellow dog owner of Carol who is dying of cancer and must find a home for her dog Harry, a bull terrier, the same breed as Martha’s dog, Minnie. When Harry meets Minnie it is love at first sight. But is also the start of a deep and meaningful friendship between Carol and Martha.

Other new selections include “Leave the World Behind” by Rumaan Alam, “The First to Lie” by Hank Phillippi Ryan and “A Simple Murder” by Linda Castillo.

The Book Challenge for April is to read a book in a different format than you usually read. You may want to listen to a book on CD. Or choose a digital ebook or audio book from MTLibrary2Go. How about a graphic or large print novel? Check out the display of options we have to help with you choose.

The library will be closed Friday, April 16 so staff may attend virtual training.

Children are invited to join Virtual Story Time each Tuesday morning at 10 A.M. on Facebook Live.

The library is sponsoring the program “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. When parents/guardians register their child he/she will be given a free board book at the library. As books are read parents can keep track using the ReadSquared app or visit harlempubliclibrary.readsquared.com.
