Wildcats Fall to Broadus, 38-14

The Harlem Wildcats added back a game to their schedule this past Saturday, traveling to Circle to face the Broadus Hawks in a neutral site contest. The Wildcats were short a game following the cancellation of the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbird football season. The long trip to Circle didn’t quite turnout as they had hoped as they were dealt a 38-14 loss.
Broadus got on the board first scoring on a one yard run at the 7:07 mark of the first quarter to take a 6-0 lead. The Hawks would add a six yard touchdown run on the very first play of the second quarter and add the conversion to push the lead to 14-0.
The Wildcats did respond on the next possession. Senior running back Clay Adams picked up 33 yard scamper down the sideline in front of the Wildcat bench. Two plays later junior quarterback Leon Champagne lofted a well thrown 23 yard strike to senior wide receiver Charlie Calvert for the first Wildcat points, cutting the Hawk lead back to 14-6.
Broadus scored another touchdown on a short run on the Hawks next possession and would take a 22-6 advantage into halftime. Broadus quickly added to their lead early in the third quarter to go up 28-6. The defense for the Wildcats continued to play hard and managed a goal line stand late in the quarter. The Hawks would score again on their next possession, thwarting any Wildcat momentum. Leading 30-6 the Hawks weren’t done, extending the margin to 38-6 entering the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats had something going on the ensuing kickoff when freshman Miles Fetter turned in a 64 yard return all the way down to the four yard line. The Wildcats turned the ball over on the next play snuffing out the drive. Adams scored on a 14 yard run with time running down to cap off a five play drive, providing the final points of the contest, a 38-14 setback for the Wildcats.
Adams led the way for the Wildcats with 16 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown. Harlem had 127 yards of total offense. The defense struggled to slow down the Broadus offense, allowing 374 total yards in the contest.
Head Coach Trenton Woodward says it’s time for his team to regroup, “Back to the drawing board. We seem to have lost our team identity the past few weeks and we need to get back to the basics and do what we are coached to do. We need to come out focuses Friday night against Fort Benton, do something special and send our seniors off with a big win.
Harlem will host the Fort Benton Longhorns this Friday in their final home contest of the season. Harlem should have a few more players with experience available for the contest and hope to turn some heads. They will conduct their Senior Night celebration in conjunction with the game. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. Harlem will conclude its season the following Friday, October 7 in Belt against the Huskies.
