September 13, 2023

The Chinook Sugarbeeters began the season with a hard fought battle on the road to the Culbertson Cowboys losing 18-8. The ‘Beeters had a bye week two, and were on the road again this past Saturday to take on the Shelby Coyotes. In another tough contest the Coyotes outlasted the ‘Beeters in 30-20 win in the conference opener for Chinook.

The ‘Beeters found themselves in a tough back and forth affair with Chinook taking a 20-14 lead midway through the second half, but penalties and mistakes piled up late. The Coyotes took full advantage scoring a couple of touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions to defeat the ‘Beeters 30-20. Chinook falls to 0-2 on the season. Chinook will host the Harlem Wildcats this Friday at Hoon Field. Harlem will look to even their record at 2-2 while the Sugarbeeters hope to pick up win number one. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.

The ‘Beeter had their chances in both games to start the season. Head Coach, Mike Jones had this to say following their loss to the Coyotes, “We had an untimely fumble and then a terrible three and out with a punt snap over our head. Lot of youth mistakes but flashes of really good football.”

The ‘Beeters have good numbers with 25 listed on the roster. The ‘Beeters are also young with freshmen (9) and sophomores (7) accounting for 16 of them. The ‘Beeters will look to seniors Jackson Nordboe, Kaden Green and Danny McKenzie to provide leadership. Chinook’s juniors are a pretty experienced group. Juniors include Brockton Elliot, Gage Chapman, Jacob Metcalf, Landon Beck, Oliver Standiford, and Kohen Sullivan.

This year's sophomore class will look to fill holes where need. This group includes Kegan Green, Britt Powell, RJ Engstrom, Ayden Alisch, Griff Crowley, Owen Davies and Wyatt Olmstead. The freshmen class getting their first taste of High School ball includes Cooper Standiford, Ryan Bell, Jameson Nordboe, Patrick McKenzie, Walter Schoen, Julian Powell, Ross Valdez, Carter Alisch and Rangler Skoyen
