We've Got The County Covered

Chinook Senior Center

Hello From the Chinook Social Senior Center!

Wow! What a great week we have had! We had the Presentation/Book Signing with Mark Vitaris (Author) of the Book: Borderlands (5 years in the making). That was a wonderful presentation! Sam French, Blaine County Museum Director was instrumental in getting him here, as his very first stop in the U.S. Yay Sam! Great Job! Chinook even came ahead of the Charlie Russell Museum in Great Falls, thanks to Sam French. I am partnering with Sam to continue a 2023 Off-Season Speaker Series. The following dates & presenters are listed below.

Wednesday, Nov. 15th 5:30 Austin Haney (Iron Dreams:Montana and the Pacific Railroad Surveys of 1853)

Wednesday, Dec. 13th 5:30 Jack Mattingly (The history of the Methodist church in Montana & Blaine County & circuit rider, Brother William Wesley Van Orsdel.

Wednesday, Feb 7th 7:00 Rod Benson (Reader’s Digest Version” of Blaine County Geology.

These should all be wonderful presentations! Please call us ahead & let us know that you will, indeed be joining us!

We consider ourselves very blessed to have these great cultural opportunities available to us here, in Chinook!!!

Thanks to the County Commissioners, we will be getting 2 taller toilets & grab bars in our ladies room. Thank Shane Fox, when you see him. He is truly wonderful to work with.

The 54th Annual Governor’s Conference on Aging was a wonderful experience, with lots of very valued information. My head came back all chocked full of ideas & plans to continue to grow our Center into a wonderful Community minded location for many learning opportunities for us all! I will keep you all posted at what I am successful at implementing.

I had the great pleasure & privilege of nominating & with the aid of her wonderful daughter, Mary Lou Butcher, take Virginia Olson, who reached a fabulous age of 102 years, yesterday, to our conference & have her honored & recognized by our Governor. This woman has a new nickname from me “Spunk”.

We hosted Virginia’s birthday party, here at our wonderful Center, yesterday, with a Poet, Lorraine Seaford & a Picker, Gene Allen. Both Lorraine & Gene gave us an afternoon of pleasure & were here to celebrate Virginia with us! Now, THAT is community!! They didn’t even hesitate when I called & asked them to come & share their talents.

We are always willing to partner with a family member to implement the use of our Center for these fun milestones. Just give us plenty of notice by calling us at 357-2648!

PLEASE remember! Our first class of Painting with Jack Brandon will be held here on Wednesday, Oct. 18th @ 1:00 p.m. I am looking very forward to this. I am creative, however, have never considered myself to be an artist, so…..call & join us!

At this time, several of us have been joining a Stretch & Limber exercise class every Monday & Wednesday @ 10:00 a.m. You should truly try these marvelous moves! We are all finding it very beneficial. We found that the Walk with Ease class wasn’t as suited to us, as the above mentioned class.

Danny Harshman (otherwise known as Sparky) joined us the past two days & got all caught up on our local news. It was a delight to see him.

We will be having a fun-filled Halloween party here on Halloween day from 2:00-4:00. This will be a costume party & prizes will be awarded for the best costumes! We will also have a very special menu that day, including Pork Chile Verde. It is a particularly yummy treat. Call us ahead!

Our Foot Clinic will be held Monday, November 6th. Once, again, PLEASE call & sign up in advance, as these do fill up!

Cornhole is held every Monday from 1:00-3:00. We are having great fun with this adventure & are still welcoming other players!

We have a different exercise class, led by Ellen Savage every Tuesday @ 10:00 a.m. We have Cribbage on Tuesdays @ 1:00. We have Bingo every Thursday from 1:00-3:00. We have a the band here, every Friday, beginning at 10:00. We offer Caramel Rolls, every Thursday morning, by calling us no later that 1:00 on Wednesdays & placing your order.
