The Turner Tornadoes and the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds each found themselves with just one game this weekend. Both squads saw their Saturday games postponed until a later date. Friday evening, the Tornadoes were in Hays for a District 9C contest. Turner got off to a fast start and never looked back in earning a 78-30 win over the Thunderbirds.

Friday night in Hays, Turner senior Ryan Doyle turned in a huge first quarter effort, scoring thirteen points to power a hot start by the Tornadoes. Junior Tate Beck knocked down a triple while senior Trent Billmayer scored four himself. Turner tallied 24 points in the opening stanza. Senior Jacoby Ball scored four of the Thunderbirds' eight points.

Leading 24-8 at the start of the second quarter, the Tornadoes slowed things down a bit. Beck connected again from distance and junior Carson Maloney connected down low for a trio of baskets, providing the spark to the Turner offense that scored 11 in the frame. The Thunderbirds got buckets from Ball, senior Avery Boe and sophomore Haiden Grant. Hays/Lodge Pole scored eight points in the second quarter. Turner maintained a 35-16.

Coming out of the break, Turner's defense stood tall, limiting the Thunderbirds to just four points, all from Ball. The offense got it going, tallying 28 points in the third quarter. Turner scored with a balanced get-out and run attack. Beck scored eight points for the Tornadoes. Doyle scored nine in the quarter, freshman Brady Zellmer knocked down a dagger from long range while Maloney and Billmayer each scored inside the arc.

Turner held a comfortable 63-20 lead entering the fourth quarter. Maloney scored seven down the stretch while Doyle contributed five and freshman Tate Beck drilled a three-point bomb. The Thunderbirds got a triple from Grant and four points from junior Kendall Brockie. In the end, it was Turner taking a 78-30 win over the Thunderbirds. Turner was led on the night by Doyle's 27 points, Maloney finished with 17 in the contest, while Beck added 14. Hays/Lodge Pole's offense was led by Ball with 10 points.

Turner will return to the court on Friday when the team will travel to Chester to take on the Hawks. On Saturday, the Tornadoes will welcome the Big Sandy Pioneers to town. Hays/Lodge Pole will head to Gildford to take on the North Star Knights. On Saturday they will welcome the Chester/Joplin-Inverness Hawks to the Thunderdome.
