Sophie Ann Shambo LaTray

Sophie Ann Shambo LaTray, 92, died peacefully on August 6, 2024 at the Northern Montana Hospital in Havre, MT. with family by her side. She was the widow of John H. LaTray, Sr. They shared 50 years of marriage, until his death in 1998.

Born in Hays, MT., she was the only daughter of Ed Shambo and Cecelia Sleeping Bear Shambo. Sophie attended school at the Mission school in Hays, MT and Nothern Montana College in Havre, MT. Sophie worked as a CNA for 30+ years. She started at the Sweet Memorial Nursing Home in Chinook, then the Lutheran Home in Havre, Northern Montana hospital and retired from Westmont Home Health in 2000 to care for her grandson.

She belonged to the St. Gabriel's Catholic church and attended church every Sunday until she was unable to walk independently. She enjoyed cleaning and taking care of her home. She loved going for drives in the evenings and on Sunday afternoons. She liked to stop for lunch or have a picnic along the way. She loved to read romance novels and stories and listen to country music.

Sophie is survived by her sons, Frank (Karen), Buddy, Terry (Julie), Marlin (Deb), Gaylord, Lyle, and daughter Joan Bruguier (Eric), many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as her little dog Apollo. She was preceded in death by her husband John, sons Lynn and Ronnie and one daughter Arlene.

Rosary was held Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 7:00 p.m in Chinook at the St. Gabriels Catholic Church with funeral on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gabriel's. Her ashes will be buried alongside her husband at a later date.
