This is how the refurbished bell from the Chinook United Methodist church looked in October after being refurbished. The photo was taken at Daniel Kleinjan's Highline Custom Metal shop in Havre, where the new wheel that accommodates the rope pull and a new stand were built and installed. Sand blasting and polishing to restore the original brass bell's shine was done by Chris Preputin's shop at Custom Collision.
Keen observers of happenings around Chinook likely noticed that for some time the bell was missing from the belfry of the United Methodist Church. The church sits just northeast of downtown Chinook and its steeple is a part of the downtown horizon looking east and north. I'm not exactly sure when the bell came loose from its base, but it was a few months ago.
More recently those same keen viewers described above, and perhaps others, may have noticed a shiny, silvery bell is now in the place where old dull one once sat. Sharp observers, your eyes are not playing tricks on you...the original bel...
