Chinook boys and girls sweep Cut Bank at home

Week two of the new year is in the books, and the Chinook boys basketball team got last week off to a great start.

Last Thursday night, the Sugarbeeters got their first win of 2026, as they beat District 1B rival Cut Bank, 56-45.

Behind Ryan Bell's 34 points, which included four 3-pointers, the Beeters were able to pull away from the Wolves in the final eight minutes.

Bell got help, too. Jameson Nordboe poured in 24 points for the Beeters, who bounced back from two tough losses last week.

After having last Friday night off, Chinook returned to the road to take on the Fairfield Eagles on Saturday. And it was a tough loss as the Beeters lost to the rival Eagles 72-46. Chinook was trying to hang tough, but Fairfield closed the game on a 25-13 run.

Ryan Bell scored 12 points and Jameson Nordboe added 10 in the loss to the Eagles.

Meanwhile, the Chinook girls snapped a five-game losing streak with a huge win at home over Cut Bank last Thursday.

The Sugarbeeters jumped out to a 15-point lead early on, and never looked back as they blew past the Cut Bank Wolves, 75-43. The blowout win was crucial for Chinook, which had yet to win a District 1B game this season.

Neva Lowe drilled eight 3-pointers and poured in 29 points for the Beeters, while Charley Nissen added 13 points in the win.

Last Saturday also saw the Sugarbeeters fall to the 1B rival Fairfield Eagles in a tough game, 46-37. It was a homecoming for Chinook head coach Jill Barta, but her former team, the Eagles, were a little too tough for Chinook.

Neva Lowe did score 22 points for the Beeters, including four 3-pointers, while Kendall Fetter added seven points in the loss.

The Sugarbeeters will be in Conrad this Friday for a doubleheader, before returning home to Choteau for another 1B doubleheader next Saturday.
