Beeters sweep Rocky Boy on the road

Chinook boys win twice

The Chinook boys and girls basketball teTeams are looking to rise in the District 1B standings as January draws to a close.

And the Sugarbeeters took a big step forward last weekend.

Last Friday saw the Chinook boys win in Rocky Boy, 50-41. It was a key conference win for the Beeters, and it earned them a season sweep of the Northern Stars.

Ryan Bell returned from an injury to score 14 points for Chinook, while Jameson Norboe was also one of three double-figure scorers with 12 points. Bryce Elliot also scored 14 points in the win.

Chinook then returned home to go for the weekend sweep, and the Beeters did just that on Saturday.

Back in the Chinook High Gymnasium, the Beeters put on an awesome defensive display in a 44-28 win over Shelby. Chinook's defense held the Coyotes to just 13 first-half points in the victory.

Jameson Norboe scored 11 points, and Britt Powell added 10 as Chinook improved to 6-3 in the 1B.

The Chinook boys were not the only ones earning big wins over the weekend. The Chinook girls also beat Rocky Boy. Last Friday night, the Sugarbeeters beat the Morning Stars, 49-27, in a key District 1B battle.

Neva Lowe canned four three-pointers and scored 22 points, while 10 different Beeters got into the scoring column in the road win for Chinook.

The Beeters were hoping to rebound on Saturday night when they were at home to host Shelby. However, in a defensive tussle, the Beeters came up short in a 31-28 loss to the Coyotes.

Chinook led 8-3 early on, and the Beeters took a 14-10 lead into halftime. However, Shelby outscored the Beeters 21-14 the rest of the way.

Neva Lowe led Chinook with 12 points, while Kendall Fetter added eight points in the tough loss.

Chinook will now play back-to-back road games as the Beeters travel to Fort Benton and Box Elder this weekend.
