We've Got The County Covered

Harlem boys, Turner girls on a roll right now

We are just a month away from tournament, and that means every game on the Hi-Line is becoming crucial for area basketball teams. Last weekend was no different.

The Harlem boys basketball team got a big win last Friday night when the Wildcats beat arch rival Poplar, 82-71. Harlem's 17-8 run in the second quarter gave the Wildcats some breathing room, and they were able to hold on in the second half.

Friday night also saw the Harlem girls best Poplar for another key District 2B win.

In Class C hoops on Friday night, the Turner girls kept their winning ways going when they beat Dodson, 55-25. The Tornadoes went on a 15-6 run in the second quarter and never looked back, as Bridget Reed scored 15 points to lead the way.

The night was not as kind to the Turner boys. At Dodson, the Tornadoes fell, 75-63. The game was a shootout, and though Turner outscored the Coyotes 16-14 in the fourth period, it was not enough. Ty Beck scored a game-high 26 points, and Gabriel Arean added 15 in the tough loss for the Tornadoes.

Both Turner squads fell to the Malta JV teams on Thursday night. Malta beat the Turner girls, 46-43, while the Turner boys fell to the Mustangs, 66-44.

Turner will return home to host Hays Lodgepole this Thursday night, before traveling to North Country on Friday night.

On Saturday night, the Harlem boys won an exciting overtime thriller against Plentywood. Harlem was down 33-30 at halftime and trailed again in the fourth quarter, only to tie the game in the final seconds, then outscore Plentywood 5-4 in overtime.

Lathan Black Wolf scored 26 points, and Cody McCabe added 24 points as Harlem remained atop the 2B standings.

Saturday night was also kind to the Harlem girls, as they cruised to a 61-43 win over Plentywood. The game was close in the third quarter, but Harlem outscored Plentywood 16-9 in the final seven minutes to secure the win.

J'Lynn Morgan scored 11 points, and Trinity Walker added nine for the victorious Wildcats.

Harlem will battle Hays Lodgepole this Thursday at home, before hosting Malta in a crucial 1B doubleheader on Saturday.
