Thunderbirds Battle Through Conference Play, Prepare for Key Matchups

The Hays Lodgepole Thunderbirds girls and boys basketball teams continue to compete through a busy stretch of the season, facing tough conference opponents and preparing for key upcoming matchups.

Girls Basketball

The Hays Lodgepole Lady Thunderbirds hold a strong 9-3 overall record this season, including a 3-3 mark in conference play. The Lady T Birds picked up an important home win on Tuesday, defeating the Frazer Bearcubs 57-43. The win showcased solid team play and helped maintain momentum heading into the weekend.

On Saturday, January 24, the Thunderbirds traveled to Box Elder to take on the Bears. Hays Lodgepole stayed competitive throughout the contest, matching Box Elder's intensity and effort, but ultimately fell 45-34 to the Bears in a hard fought battle.

Looking ahead, the Lady Thunderbirds will host the Harlem Wildcats in a non conference matchup on Thursday, January 29, with tipoff scheduled for 6:00 pm. They will then return to conference action on Friday, January 30, when they face the Turner Tornadoes, currently ranked number one in the conference, at 5:00 pm.

Boys Basketball

The Hays Lodgepole Thunderbird boys enter the week with a 6-6 overall record and a 2-4 conference mark. The Thunderbirds earned a convincing home victory on Tuesday, cruising past Frazer with an impressive 81-53 win.

On Saturday, January 24, the boys traveled to Box Elder to face the defending Class C state champion Bears. Box Elder once again proved why they remain one of the top teams in the state, as the Thunderbirds struggled to keep pace and fell 76-49.

The Thunderbird boys will look to bounce back on Thursday, January 29, when they take on the Harlem Wildcats in non conference action at 7:30 pm. They will then compete in a 9C conference matchup against the Turner Tornadoes on Friday, January 30, with tipoff set for 6:30 pm.
