MSU-Northern Chancellor to Retire after Serving 50 years in Education

MSU-Northern Chancellor Gregory D. Kegel announced he will retire August 1, 2026, after more than 44 years of service to the university and a 50-year career in education, including over a decade as Chancellor.

A 1976 graduate, Kegel returned to Northern in 1982 as an instructor and rose through the ranks to lead the university beginning in 2014. During his tenure, he prioritized student recruitment, retention, and hands-on learning while helping guide a shared vision for the campus.
