A busy week of Summer baseball is in the books for the Havre Northstars American Legion baseball club.
Last Tuesday, the Northstars traveled to Vauxhall for a Northern A District doubleheader. Havre split with the Spurs, losing the first game 18-11 in a wild affair. Vauxhall scored 11 runs in the second inning and was leading 11-2, but Havre battled back, scoring nine runs in the last four innings. However, Vauxhall’s offense was too much in the end.
The second game was a different story, as the Northstars were dominant in an 11-2 win over the Spurs. Havre’s 12 runs came on 11 hits, while the Northstars’ pitching was brilliant, allowing just two hits on the night.
After the split with the Spurs, the Northstars headed to Three Forks for the annual Gallatin Valley Invitational Tournament.
The Northstars opened things with a 12-3 loss to host GVO. Havre fell behind 3-0, and GVO never looked back in the win. Havre had six hits, with Teegan Solomon providing two of them, including a triple. Solomon, Cody Standiford and Michael Thompson each drove in runs as well.
Havre returned on Saturday and beat Lewistown 16-2, as the Northstars belted out 15 hits, and Quinn Elliott drove in five runs on four hits. Tyson Brandon also had three hits, and Elliott Stanford and Simeon Keever all had extra base hits. Maddox Keller and Hayden Berreth combined to allow two hits and two runs to the Redbirds.
Also on Saturday, Havre fell to the Bozeman Bucks 18-6. The Bucks scored seven runs run the first two innings, in a game that would end in four. The Bucks had 18 hits to Havre’s four. Brandon and Elliott combined for all four hits, with Brandon registering a double. Kaden Wall took the loss for the Northstars.
On Sunday, the Northstars also took a tough loss against the Bitteroot Red Sox. Havre managed just one hit, coming from Brandon, while Archer Sawdy scored the Northstars’ only run. The Red Sox had nine hits, while Standiford took the loss.
Havre did finish strong in Three Forks as the Northstars crushed the Cody Cubs 14-1 in the final game of the tournament. Havre scored 14 runs on just seven hits and led 5-0 after the first inning. Brandon, Solomon, Elliott, Sawdy and Cooper Walton all had hits for Havre, while Elliott, Stanford and Sawdy combined for six RBIs.
On the mound, Sawdy got the complete-game win for Havre, which improved to 9-9-1 on the season.
The Northstars returned to district play on Tuesday at Fort MacLeod. The Northstars will also play five games at the Lewistown Tournament this weekend.
