During last Tuesday’s Chinook City Council meeting, an interim mayor was appointed to replace Mayor Glen Huestis who resigned Feb. 5 due to health issues. The Council voted to approve council member Robert Smith for the role to fill the vacancy until the end of the term this November. Two weeks ago was the 55th anniversary of the "Big Sandy Cornfield Bomber" incident. Locals were shocked to witness an F-106A Delta Dart performing a belly landing in a field north of Big Sandy, not far from Box Elder. As surprised as they were by the landing. little could prepare them for the revelation that the airplane had landed without a pilot at the controls. The Friends of the Pool and Park Foundation recently received $2500 from Triangle Communications through their Community Vitality Grant for the Chinook Pool and Park Rehabilitation Project. The Montana Association of Clerks and Recorders is sponsoring two $1000 scholarships for graduating seniors who will be attending an in-state college or university. On February 4, the Chinook FFA Chapter traveled to Havre, Montana, for the spring Milk River District Competition. The event was held at the Fifth Avenue Christian Church where the membership competed in Agricultural Sales, FFA Creed Speaking, Star Greenhand, and Extemporaneous Speaking.
