As the clock struck midnight on Thanksgiving Thursday, the Christmas season began in Chinook with the 39th annual Parade of Lights. As Chinook's residents awoke from their turkey-fueled food comas to the Friday morning light, they were greeted by a frigid chill in the air and big fat globs of slowly falling snow, the likes of which you usually see in snow globes. While this weather may have called for a few additional layers of clothing, what would the parade of lights be without some nice...

The animals were shot with a firearm, and likely killed between the evening of Nov. 20 and early on...

This is a story about a bomb cyclone that hit Seattle while Sherry and I were out here doing our annual dog sitting gig. Since the last story I did was about Japanese balloon bombs from World War II, regular readers may think I'm fixated on writing about bombs. One big difference, besides a 75-year time gap, is that a bomb cyclone is a function of natural forces, not a manmade weapon like the bomb balloons. On Tuesday evening, November 19, a bomb cyclone hit much of western Washington, specifica...

Hello Harlem! It’s going to be a cold Thanksgiving in Harlem this year – a blustery wind blowing and possibly some of the white stuff covering the ground. Nevertheless, I am sure it will be very warm in our homes as families and friends gather to give thanks and enjoy some great food and fellowship. I am usually pretty busy on Thanksgiving morning – getting the big meal ready and doing some housecleaning before the guests arrive for dinner (thank God for football afterwards). However, I always take a few moments in-between to think about the p...

Two of those bombs were found in Blaine County. One was found east of Turner and one was...

Blaine County is home to thousands of cattle. They are on the move year around, but from September through November the bulk of area cattle are being shipped to buyers, relocated to winter pasture or being sold to other producers. A common sight at any Blaine County gas station or fill up is similar to the one pictured above, cattle pots loaded and ready to head on down the highway. Agriculture is our main business in Blaine County, and we salute all of our farmers and ranche...

Hello Harlem! Winter is in the air and the first snowflakes swirled around in the cold wind last week. It is the time of year when we move most of our activities indoors – time to watch some football games on television and make some hearty autumn soups to enjoy. How do you spend your indoor time? Card games with friends, board games and puzzles with the kids? Thanksgiving is right around the corner. It is a time for all of us to slow down and reflect on all of the blessings we have received. Yes, we all endure hardships from time to time ...
