Library Director Carly Vauthier conveyed that the Community Appreciation Event hosted by the Friends of the Harlem Public Library on Wednesday, July 23 from 4-6:00 p.m. went extremely well. Holding a free community appreciation meal was the group’s manner for celebrating their local supporters.
Based on the number of Doritos bags purchased for the event, organizers estimate that approximately 130 people came out for the meal. “We actually ran out of taco meat, so I’d call it a success,” Vauthier reported. “We served traveling tacos, Rice Krispies treats, and water. There were fun fiesta-themed temporary tattoos that kids of any age could wear, as well.”
This was Vauthier’s first major event since becoming director. The previous Library Director, Colleen Brommer put in her final day on June 27, so Vauthier has officially been in her position since June 30. About her time as director, Vauthier states: “So far, so good! Library traffic seems to slow down the last few weeks of July and through August, and that has given me a chance to learn at a pace where I can grasp what exactly all goes in to being the director. Colleen, our library board, our Friends group, and the clerk and county commissioners have all been helpful and supportive. I really appreciate that.”
The Friends group is led by Co-Chairs Libby Kuntz and Teresa Cornell, while Louise Nissen serves as the Events Coordinator. “Our entire group is excellent at executing their plans,” Vauthier claims.
Up next for the Harlem Public Library is their board meeting on Wednesday, July 30 at 4:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
Finally, Vauthier announced: “Keep an eye out for upcoming programs to begin in the fall.”
