  • Hot weather doesn't deter July 4th celebrations around the county

    Steve Edwards|Jul 12, 2017

A typical warm and somewhat breezy July 4th made for good conditions for several local celebrations around Blaine County. There were family gatherings as well as more organized community-based events. In Chinook at mid-morning of the 4th, the 71st edition of the July 4th Races, put on by the VFW, did not disappoint. There was a good turnout as youngsters, and oldsters, battled for prize money and bragging rights. Local VFW Commander Ray Reid said he was pleased with the turnout and the weather....

John Skoyen, Fair Board member who first floated the idea of using the signs, said, "This year we'll be using the signs to recognize the businesses and individuals who... Full story

His message to us was, "You have a long journey before you in this life. May it be a happy one." And for most of us our journey has been a...

Snow planes were popular on the upper plains of the Midwest, first as a means to travel over the snow, later as a form of recreation. Many were built on the chassis of old airplanes-using the plane's cabin as a passenger compartment, moving the engine and propeller to the rear for push and adding skis. In Montana ranchers built and used the machines to check on cattle and...
