Chinook Schools in Lock down

April 25, 2018

Darin Hannum, Chinook School Superintendent released this statement following an event at the high school last week: This afternoon (Wednesday, April 18) at Chinook High School we had a written threat. We take threats seriously as our number one priority is to provide a safe learning environment for students and staff.

What did we do? Upon notification of the threat, the Chinook City Police Force and the Blaine County Sheriff were immediately contacted. Students and staff at both Meadowlark and Chinook High School sheltered in place. Law enforcement facilitated a safe evacuation of the school. This matter is under investigation. Please remind your children that if they see something, they should say something. It worked today.

Chinook Police Chief Elmer Zarn added that through the investigation a suspect has been developed and that paperwork has been submitted to the Blaine County District Attorneys Office. The process is in their hands now as far as determining how the case proceeds and as to whether or not charges will be filed. Any further information will come through the County Attorney’s office.
