Blaine County Library

July 29, 2020

Effective 7/17/2020 all patrons age 5 and over are required to wear a face covering to enter the building. The mandate by the Governor went into effect in Blaine County due to the number of COVID-19 cases in the county. We require everyone to wash their hands upon entering the building and to practice social distancing while in the building.

The library has mobile hotspots available for check out. These are small devices used to access the Internet by using a cellular connection. Patrons who have been registered with a good record for at least one month may check out a hotspot for 14 days with no renewals. A user must read and sign a lending agreement and complete a survey upon return of the device. Each user is responsible to return the hotspot on time in good working order. If it is not returned on time the device will be disabled. The mobile hotspots are provided to libraries across the state thanks to a pilot program from Montana State Library.

There is still time to participate in the Summer Reading Program! Help keep kids reading throughout the summer to prevent the summer slide by encouraging them to participate in the Summer Reading Program. The library has partnered with the Chinook Public Schools and will have a Story Walk Monday and Wednesday on the lawn in front of the Meadowlark from 12:00 to 1:30, weather permitting. We will be offering a Take and Make craft. Kids can register for the Summer Reading Program during this time. They can also register at the library during regular business hours. Prizes will be available for each reading certificate returned, as well as a snack bar for 5 hours, a certificate to the Creamery for 10 hours and a certificate to Rads for 20 hours. Additionally, kids can enter to win one of three larger prizes from Ace Hardware.

Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. we offer a Storytime program on the grass in front of the Grande Villa for ages 6 and under, also weather permitting. It is geared toward a younger audience, but children of all ages are welcome to attend. We ask that you bring a blanket and have at least one parent or care giver. Keep a social distance of six feet and remain on your blanket throughout the program.

We have Beat the Heat movies on Thursdays. There will be limited seating available to comply with social distancing. We will offer 2 showings of the movie the first from 12:30 to 2:00 and the second from 2:30 to 4:00. Children under 6 must have a parent or caregiver present during the movie. Reservations are recommended. This week the movie will be Alpha and Omega. It is rated PG and runs for an hour and 18 minutes.

We would like to remind everyone that the library is a Be Counted location for the Montana 2020 Census. If you have not filled out your Census form, stop in and we can get you set up to file your Census online. You do not need the card with your personal number that the Census mailed to fill out the form online. All you need to get started is your physical address.
