The Chinook Sugarbeeters, Harlem Wildcats, Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds and the Turner Tornadoes headed to the Havre Lions Track and Field Meet in Havre Saturday. The meet was held at the Havre middle school track and field complex and as seems to be the case every year the teams battle less than ideal weather conditions including extreme gusts of wind.

The Havre Lions meet featured 22 teams representing the Class A, Class B and Class C divisions. The strong field provided the athletes with good competition and despite the strong winds many turned in personal best times and distances.

Chinook sophomore Anna Terry continued to perform well in the distance races and took home top honors in the 3,200 Meter run. Terry completed the eight lap race in 13:45. Turner senior Shyan Krass finished second in the event with a time of 14:42.

Harlem junior standout Taya Trottier earned a second place finish in the 1,600 Meter run, completing the four laps in 6:01. Terry was also solid in the event turning in a time of 6:09 to finish fifth. Krass was sixth, crossing the finish line in 6:22. Trottier picked up a third place finish for the Wildcats in the 800 Meter run with a time of 2:44.

In the field it was Chinook senior Jayden Miller with the best finish of the day. Miller's flip of 102'11" in the Discus was good enough to earn her a third place finish. Krass was fourth with a mark of 96'4.5" for the Tornadoes.

Chinook junior Kinley Hamilton has been very consistent in the shot put this spring and turned in another solid effort on Saturday. Her mark of 32'6" was good for fifth in the strong field.

On the boys side of the ledger it was Harlem junior Amari Stanley and Hays/Lodge Pole senior Isaiah Denny leading the way, each with a second place finish on the day.

Stanley has been impressive in the triple jump thus far and his hop, skip and jump of 39'7" Saturday was another solid effort. Wildcat senior Andrew Rasmussen was sixth in the event with a mark of 37'11".

Denny won the 3,200 Meter Run, battling the wind for eight laps to finish second in 13:25. Thunderbird sophomore Daniel Henry was third with a time of 13:42 and Harlem freshman Moses Lawrence was fourth, finishing in 13:51.

Darrius Longknife earned a fifth place finish for the Wildcats in the 300 Meter Hurdles after crossing the finish line in a time of :49.9. Chinook sophomore Braxton Inman was sixth with a time of :50.1. In the Javelin it was Harlem junior Mikkel Rider finishing sixth with a throw into the wind of 117'3".

Despite the less than ideal conditions it was a good test for many of our local athletes. While some still need to meet the practice requirements to compete and others didn't compete for various reasons, the outlook for Blaine County athletes is positive come Districts, Divisional and even State.
