Blaine County Library

August 4, 2021

The library will be open limited hours today, August 4th, due to staff scheduling issues. We will be open 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Summer programs are officially over. We send a huge shoutout to Alyssa Hewitt and all her helpers from P.A.W.S. for a special Story Time presentation last Tuesday. The puppies were a big hit! We would also like to thank the Wildlife Museum for giving our Summer Reading kids a tour and reading a story. Even though our weekly programs are over, we encourage kids to keep reading and turning in time logs. Friday August 13th will be the final day to turn in time logs. We will then tally up the hours read and draw for prizes. Regular programs will resume in September.

We have several thrillers, one non-fiction book and a couple of feel-good novels ready this week. In "False Witness" by Karin Slaughter we meet Leigh Collier, who has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She's an up-and-coming defense attorney at a prestigious law firm in Atlanta. On a Sunday night at her daughter's school play, she gets a call from one of the firm's partners who wants Leigh to come on board to defend a wealthy man accused of multiple counts of rape. It becomes apparent she doesn't have much choice if she wants to keep her job. When she meets the accused face-to-face, she realizes that it's no coincidence that he's specifically asked for her to represent him. She knows him. And he knows her. More to the point, he may know what happened over twenty years ago, and why Leigh has spent two decades avoiding her past. "The Bone Code" by Kathy Reichs is the twentieth novel featuring forensic anthropologist, Temperance Brennan. "An Ambush of Widows" by Jeff Abbott is a riveting psychological thriller, where an uneasy alliance form as two widows delve into their husbands' deadly and dangerous secrets-as they try to protect their own. "The Comfort Book" by Matt Haig is a collection of notes, lists, and stories written over a span of several years that originally served as gentle reminders to Haig's future self that things are not always as dark as they may seem. Incorporating a diverse array of sources from across the world, history, science, and his own experiences, Haig offers warmth and reassurance, reminding us to slow down and appreciate the beauty and unpredictability of existence. A grandmother's loving bequest changes three lives forever in a heartwarming novel about finding love, hope, and family in "The Hope Chest" by Carolyn Brown. After her marriage ends, one woman's struggle to pick up the pieces finally leads to a new beginning but is the past truly behind her? Author Debbie Macomber explores the powerful intersections of love and family in "It's Better this Way".
