Great Plains Veterans Services Center Brings No‑Cost Transportation Services to Blaine County Veterans

Chinook, MT – January 14, 2026 – Great Plains Veterans Services Center (GPVSC) is on a mission to increase veteran access to medical care and reduce barriers for veterans to attend appointments. In 2025, GPVSC made a significant expansion of its Veterans Transportation Services (VTS) to better serve Veterans in rural counties across Montana, including Chinook and the rest of Blaine County. They closed out the year with over 571 thousand miles traveled to ensure veterans received the care they deserve and they hope to continue to drive even more miles this year. Additionally, they added two wheel chair accessible vans to their fleet for more support for our disabled veterans. Through the VA's Highly Rural Transportation Grant (HRTG), GPVSC ensures that rural Veterans across Montana have access to free, reliable rides for VA and VA-authorized medical appointments.

Local Veterans in Chinook often face long drives-sometimes hours-to access VA care. GPVSC's transportation solution means Veterans no longer have to shoulder these burdens alone. The program offers a lifeline for those using the Havre VA Clinic or traveling to larger centers like Great Falls, Helena, and beyond. The transportation program isn't just for long drives though, no ride is too long or too short for the drivers of GPVSC.

This program is available to any veteran with a VA appointment or VA referral to community care, with no justification of need. The program is simply a thank you to our veterans for their service. They served us, now it's our time to serve them.
