October 2, 2021 was a busy day in Chinook, MT. Vendors, Bounce houses, Fun Run, Sugarbeet Decorating contest and the Parade provided many fun activities at the Sugarbeet Festival. My wife, Sherry, and I just returned from a driving trip to Georgia. The trip was to visit a very dear friend from years back and also, well, about nostalgia. We lived for 20 years over two time spans in the state, both our children were born there and I, honestly, had a strong hankering for some southern cooking. August 24, 2021 – The Montana Community Foundation (MCF) announces a grant cycle to benefit communities and residents of Blaine County. Grants will be made from the Blaine County Community Foundation Fund, established at the Montana Community Foundation (MCF) by Warren Ross in 1997. Last month, Brenda Reiter, Program Director for Code Girls United, reached out to Blaine County Library Director Valerie Frank about the possibility of hosting a coding program for girls in grades 4-8. Fort Belknap, Mont. –– The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) recently issued new load postings for the White Bear Creek Bridge on MT 66 in Fort Belknap, in Blaine County. The postings are part of a multi-year effort to update load ratings and postings on Montana bridges as mandated by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The 2021 Homecoming was held this past weekend on Turner's Main Street. A carnival hosted by grades 7 and 8 kicked off the festivities. A variety of games, including Bingo, was held as well as corn dogs and Taco's in a bag. Everyone loved eating out for the day and having fun with the kids. The Chinook Sugarbeeters added to their three match winning streak with a sweep of the Big Sandy Pioneers on the road last Tuesday. Friday the 'Beeters were at home to take on the visiting Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds where they again earned a 3-0 match win. Friday Chinook traveled to Fort Benton to take part in the Annual Longhorn Mid-season Tournament. The Harlem Lady Cats are starting to build some momentum as the team heads into the second half of the season. Head Coach Kim Faulkinberry, her staff and the players have been working hard all season long and that effort is starting to pay off. The Chinook Sugarbeeters headed west this past Saturday to take on the Simms Tigers in a huge Northern C, 'B' Subdivision contest. Both teams began the day with perfect 5-0 records having steam rolled through the competition. The winner would earn the top spot in the subdivision and take on the 'A' subdivision number one for the Northern C Conference Championship. The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds were at home for the first time this season on Saturday as they hosted the Harlem Wildcats in an historic Northern C Eight player football contest. The Thunderbirds and the Wildcats have competed from time to time on the basketball and volleyball courts, but never before have they met on the grid iron. The Wildcats for decades played in the Northern B before moving down to Eight-player football this spring. The Harlem Wildcat and hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbird Cross Country Teams are in the home stretch of the 2021 season. Both the Thunderbirds and Wildcat boys and girls teams were in Great Falls this past Friday to take part in the CMR Class AA JV & Small Schools Cross Country Race.
